Migrational Practices
Migrational Practices is a Nordic cross-disciplinary project creating a digital platform that connects artistic, scientific, activist, and everyday practices engaging birds and humans. Through workshops
and shared development, it builds a living archive and meeting space that bridges siloed fields.
This collaboration aims to create a digital platform that highlights projects and practices (ours and others) that connect birds and people across artistic, scientific, activist, and everyday contexts.
The ambition is to challenge how siloed these fields often are and instead establish a shared infrastructure where approaches can meet, overlap, and inspire one another.
Functioning as a living web, the website will be part archive, part inspiration bank, part meeting place. It will gather methods, experiments, publications, artworks, conservation initiatives, and informal practices that others may adapt, remix, or learn from. By presenting them on equal terms, the platform encourages migration across disciplines.
The project inittates through a workshop in the Faroe Islands in which collaborators from 4 different countries exchange perspectives, map existing practices, and define the platform’s structure and values. The process culminates in the launch of the website and a small celebratory digital publication reflecting on the collaboration.
The idea grows from a shared experience of fragmentation within bird-related practices. Many actors work toward similar ecological and cultural goals but rarely meet across institutional, linguistic, or disciplinary boundaries. Migrational Practices proposes extending "thematic similarity" into a permanent, accessible Nordic meeting space.
